Probate and Estate Administration
We have a high client satisfaction rating and offer a personalised boutique service to clients.
We offer two services:
Grant Only Fixed Fee Service (you provide us with all the information and we apply for the Grant of Probate for you)
Complete Estate Administration Service (we will handle the entire Probate process for you)
GRANT ONLY FIXED FEE SERVICE -
Fees and Disbursements
We will draft the Grant of Probate (or Grant of Letters of Administration) using information provided by the client. This service is only available where no inheritance tax is due. The client will be responsible for dealing with the estate once the Grant has been issued.
The fee is dependent on which Inheritance Tax Form is required for the Grant of Probate application. This will depend on the complexity of the estate.
Our Grant Only Fixed Fees are:
Simple Estate ( Form IHT205) – £1,000 inc VAT
Full Estate (Form IHT400) – £1,800 inc VAT
Probate Court Fee of £155
£0.50 for each office copy of the Grant required (1 per asset usually)
There may be other expenses such as accountant’s fee for potential Income Tax return, Statutory Advertisement fee to advertise for unknown creditors, lost share certificates, etc.
COMPLETE ESTATE ADMINISTRATION SERVICE
If you decide to use our Complete Estate Administration Service, we will provide expert advice throughout the probate process and will include the following:

Applying for the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration (whichever is appropriate) including where necessary the Inheritance Tax Account to be submitted to the HMRC
Dealing with HMRC negotiations or the District Valuer if the value of your home is in dispute
Collecting in the assets of the deceased
Paying tax, liabilities/debts
Distributing the rest of the estate to the beneficiaries named in the Will.
COMPLETE ESTATE ADMINISTRATION SERVICE - Fees and Disbursements
Our fees for this will vary depending on many factors including whether there was a Will or not, whether the Will was simple or complicated, the size and complexity of the estate, the type of assets and properties involved and/or whether the matter needs to be dealt with urgently.
On average, the fees for full estate administration will typically start from £2,500 – £5,000 plus VAT for a very straightforward estate while fees for complex estates can exceed £10,000 plus VAT.
Before undertaking any work, we will meet with you to review the Will and discuss the estate. We will then give you a fees estimate – which is a range of costs that we believe we could incur when dealing with the estate. We will also give you a fixed fee alternative. If you chose a fixed fee option you’ll know exactly how much the estate administration will cost.
Probate Court fees and the costs of selling property are payable in addition to our fees.
How long will THIS take?
Most estates are administered within six months to one year of death. On average, obtaining the Grant takes around 8 to 16 weeks depending on the nature of the estate. Collecting in assets and paying debts and Inheritance Tax before distribution involves the remainder of the estimated time scale. The more complex the estate the longer the administration will take.
